The former St. Joseph's College, now home to the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland, is reportedly haunted by several entities, including Civil War nurses carrying buckets of amputated limbs, screaming Civil War soldiers, and the spirit of Mother Seton, the college's founder. The site, originally a Catholic girls' school established in 1809, became St. Joseph's College until 1973 before its transformation into a training center. Nurses are said to roam the grounds, their specters sometimes seen carrying buckets filled with amputated limbs from the Civil War era. The screams of soldiers, suffering in pain, are also a rumored auditory phenomenon associated with the location. The ghost of the college's founder, Mother Seton, is also believed by some to haunt the property. The location began as a Catholic girls' school in 1809 and later became St. Joseph's College.
