Seguin Island Lighthouse, Bath
Seguin Island Lighthouse is rumored to be haunted by a keeper's wife who was murdered by her husband in the mid-1800s, with the latter also dying by suicide. The keeper supposedly snapped due to his wife's incessant piano playing, though historical records don't support this violent event. Other reported phenomena include the ghost of the first keeper, Major John Polereczky, seen on the stairs, and the spirit of a little girl who can be heard laughing or coughing. A recurring legend tells of a keeper's wife who played the same piano tune repeatedly. Driving the keeper to madness, she was supposedly killed with an ax, along with the piano and himself, as a result of this tormented torment. Some accounts claim her phantom piano playing can still be heard on quiet nights. The ghost of the lighthouse's first keeper, Major John Polereczky, is said to appear, particularly on the tower's spiral staircase. A story circulates about a keeper's child, a little girl who died on the island, perhaps from illness like tuberculosis. She is sometimes heard laughing or coughing, or seen running near the garden and up the stairs. Reports from the lighthouse's current owners and visitors include: Hearing a female voice say, "Hello," when no one is there. A hook-and-eye door that locked itself from the inside. A feeling of being touched on the shoulder. A physical movement of a tarot card.
