Kennebunk Inn, Kennebunk
The Kennebunk Inn is said to be haunted by several spirits, including a mischievous former clerk and a little girl. Ghost stories connected to the historic 1799 building include unexplained noises, objects moving on their own, and phantom cold spots. Silas Perkins: One of the inn's most active and well-known spirits is Silas Perkins, a clerk and night watchman who worked at the inn in the mid-20th century and died there of a heart attack. Silas is described as a good-natured but mischievous ghost, who mainly plays pranks on employees he doesn't like. He has been known to cause objects like wine glasses and coffee mugs to levitate or fly off shelves. Cyrus: Another ghost associated with the inn is a front desk clerk and published poet named Cyrus, who reportedly died in Room 17 after having a heart attack. His spirit is thought to be trapped in the building, and some believe his pranks are an attempt to get home. Sarah Emily: A young female spirit named Sarah Emily is said to haunt the third floor and the grand staircase. She has been known to greet visitors, run in the halls, and knock on doors. Some speculate that she appears to people who remind her of her parents. Room 17: This is considered the most haunted guest room in the inn. Guests report intense paranormal feelings, cold rushes of air, and a strong sense of a ghostly presence. Televisions throughout the inn have been known to turn on by themselves. In one instance, a housekeeper witnessed the TV in Room 17 turn on even though she had unplugged it. Other mysterious events include lights and music turning on by themselves at night after the inn has been locked up.
