The Louisiana Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge is a historically haunted site where visitors report a Lady in Victorian attire gliding through hallways with soft sobbing, and other paranormal activity like mysterious footprints on the Senate floor, unexplained sounds, and motion detectors activating on their own. Many of these hauntings are attributed to the building's turbulent past, including its destruction and rebuilding during the Civil War, with the ghost of Sarah Morgan being a prominent figure associated with the castle-like structure. The Lady in Victorian Attire: A persistent spectral figure described as a woman in Victorian clothing is said to roam the corridors, sometimes accompanied by the sounds of sobbing. Footprints have been reported appearing on the Senate floor, though there is no physical explanation for their presence. Visitors and staff have noted hearing invisible people moving in the dark, and motion detectors have been known to trigger when no one is around. The spirit of Sarah Morgan, daughter of a judge, is believed by some to be the guardian of the building, which she loved and wrote about in her diary. Her story is featured in the building's "The Ghost of the Castle" 4D theatrical experience. The basement, which was once used as a hospital and prison for soldiers, is considered particularly active and a frequent site of reported paranormal events.
