The Belle of Louisville is rumored to be haunted by at least three spirits: former Captain Ben Winters, who died of a heart attack on board; another worker who was crushed by machinery; and a third who died when the paddlewheel started unexpectedly. This historic steamboat, built in 1914 and originally named the Idlewild, is believed to be home to these and potentially other entities. Captain Ben Winters: A former captain who died of a heart attack while on the boat is said to still walk the decks. A different worker died after being crushed by machinery, and their presence is also believed to linger on the vessel. Another death occurred when the paddlewheel unexpectedly began to move, and this individual is also thought to be among the spectral residents of the Belle.
