According to legend, the Moon Lake campground at Fort Riley, Kansas, is haunted by the ghost of a young girl who is often seen crying and soaking wet. The sightings frequently occur in the daytime when witnesses are alone, and the apparition vanishes when approached. The alleged paranormal activity is said to include: A young, wet girl has reportedly been seen on the beach or in the surrounding woods, disappearing as people get closer. Visitors to the area have reported hearing disembodied footsteps after dark. Loud splashing sounds, along with cries and screams, have been heard coming from the lake at night. One possible origin for the haunting is rooted in Native American lore, according to a YouTube video documenting the mystery. In one story, Native Americans once used Moon Lake as a sacred burial ground until a canoe carrying occupants was dragged under the surface by a large hand. Few Native Americans reportedly ventured near the lake afterward, believing it was cursed.
