Kansas State Capitol, Topeka

The Kansas State Capitol in Topeka is rumored to be haunted by at least two ghosts: a construction worker who died while working on the dome and is said to be heard hammering late at night, and a woman who, by some accounts, jumped or fell to her death from the rotunda, with her spirit reportedly seen standing where she fell. Stories also mention spectral footsteps and crying associated with the woman's spirit. A worker died while fastening plates on the building's dome. His spirit is said to still be on the job, and people have reported hearing him hammering at night, possibly looking for the last payment he never received. A woman, whose name is not always given, climbed to the top of the Capitol Dome and died. Some accounts say she fell, others that she jumped. Her ghost is said to have been seen standing on the rotunda floor, where she landed after falling and hitting a janitor's mop bucket. Her ghostly footsteps and crying are also heard in the area.
