Banwell (Terror) Bridge, Fort Dodge
Banwell Bridge, also known as Terror Bridge, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is a local haunted site where a mother allegedly killed her children by hanging them from the bridge and pushing them into the path of a train. Legends say her ghost remains, capable of pushing vehicles off the bridge if the doors and windows aren't locked, and visitors report hearing ghostly children's voices or crying. The most common story claims a woman brought her children to the bridge, then pushed them off one by one to their deaths, potentially hit by a train. The ghost of the mother is believed to reside on the bridge, continuing her violent act. Visitors who drive onto the bridge are warned to keep their car doors and windows locked. The ghost is said to attempt to push their car off the bridge.
Paranormal investigators have recorded disembodied sounds on the bridge, including the cries of children, the sounds of a car coming towards them, or even their own names being whispered. A group known as the Granny Ghost Hunters investigated the site, using recording devices to capture audio and video. They recorded children's voices, faint screams, and the sound of a car approaching, which later vanished.
