Carolina Street Demon House, Gary
The "Carolina Street Demon House" in Gary, Indiana, was a rental home where the Ammons family claimed to experience demonic possession starting in November 2011. The alleged supernatural phenomena included disembodied footsteps, shadowy figures, large swarms of flies during winter, and the chilling incident of the children speaking in deep, unnatural voices with distorted facial expressions. The case gained international attention after a priest performed exorcisms, and the home was eventually demolished by paranormal investigator Zak Bagans. In November 2011, Latoya Ammons and her family moved into a home at 3860 Carolina Street. They began experiencing unsettling events, such as a swarm of flies appearing on a screened-in porch in freezing temperatures. Footsteps were heard on the basement stairs at night, but no one was found on investigation. A shadowy figure of a man was seen pacing in the living room. Ammons' children began acting strangely, speaking in deep, guttural voices with their mouths twisted into terrifying smiles and their eyes bulging. The family attempted various spiritual measures, including marking their doors with crosses, burning sage, and cleaning with ammonia and bleach. A clairvoyant told them the house was possessed by over 200 demonic entities. In 2012, the Department of Child Services was petitioned to take temporary custody of the children due to concerns about their welfare. A priest, Father Michael Maginot, performed exorcisms and referred to the house as a "portal to demons".
