The Wolf Mansion, or Josephus Wolf House, is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of the enslaved people and the family of its original owner, Josephus Wolf, after he went mad and committed a horrific act of violence. Legend states he killed his slaves, their children, and his own family before taking his own life. The mansion was built in 1875, and the story suggests he lost his mind after slavery was abolished. The core of the haunting legend claims that Josephus Wolf, driven to madness after the abolition of slavery, murdered all of the enslaved people and their children on his property. He also allegedly killed his own family before taking his own life. While the legend is tied to slavery, the house was built in 1875, years after slavery ended in the United States. Some sources suggest the house never housed slaves.
