The Pfeiffer House, Fort Wayne

The Pfeiffer House in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a former resident, Fred Pfeiffer. Located at 434 W. Wayne Street, the building was formerly a coffee shop and is now part of the history center in the adjacent Bell Mansion. The apparition is believed to be Fred Pfeiffer, who was a child when he lived in the house. Rather than being a sinister haunting, Fred is thought to be a playful and mischievous spirit. According to local legend, his ghost is responsible for various unexplained events. Staff and visitors have reported seeing salt and pepper shakers and other small objects get knocked over or fall from tables. Footsteps have been heard on the stairs when no one is there. Doors have also been heard opening and closing on their own. A single piano key will sometimes play by itself, seemingly without a cause. The distinct aroma of cigar smoke has been detected, even though no one is smoking. The Pfeiffer House was built in 1905 for Charles and Henrietta Pfeiffer.
