Rockport Inn, Rockport
The Rockport Inn in Rockport, Indiana, was built in the 1850s and is known for its paranormal activity, featuring multiple reports of hauntings. The building is currently closed after a 2018 fire, but its haunted history persists. The inn is said to be haunted by a former owner, described as hairy and wearing a black coat. The man allegedly died by suicide after a stroke, not wanting to burden his family. Guests and investigators have reported seeing him look out of the windows, and his spirit is described as non-malicious. The apparition of a woman, believed to be the wife of one of the original owners, is said to walk the inn's hallways. Witnesses have reported sounds of children running down the hall after midnight and trying to ride on doorknobs. In the most active room, Room 6, guests have seen shadows of a small child and paranormal investigators have been told by spirits to place a ball upstairs for the children. Guests and staff have reported hearing disembodied piano music coming from downstairs. A bucket was once witnessed sliding down the kitchen stairs by itself. There are rumors that the inn, with its large basement and tunnels leading to the Ohio River, may have been part of the Underground Railroad. This historical link may contribute to the paranormal energy. Paranormal investigators have noted energy fluctuations, beeps, and lights turning on and off. Psychics have also advised against making physical changes to the property, sensing that it would disturb the spirits.
