Posey Chapel, La Porte
Posey Chapel, in La Porte, Indiana, is the site of a cemetery and former church and is considered a haunted location by local legends. Tales of a hanging preacher and a deceased boy are the most commonly cited sources for the reported paranormal activity. The haunted stories surrounding Posey Chapel are fueled by two separate, unfortunate events that allegedly occurred on the property. Some legends say that the chapel's preacher committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on the property. That tree is said to still stand on the grounds. Another story recounts a boy dying in the chapel's bathroom. Visitors claim that the boy's unmarked grave is on the property, and his ghost haunts the site. Visitors to the site, which consists of a pavilion and a cemetery, have reported experiencing several unexplained phenomena. Multiple visitors have reported hearing the laughter of children on the property. Some people have claimed to see the ghost of a boy and girl, as well as the chapel's former preacher. In addition to seeing or hearing things, some people have reported generally feeling a sense of unease or discomfort while on the chapel grounds. According to some accounts, a baby carriage is said to appear on the cemetery grounds. The original chapel was constructed in 1841 and later burned down. The church was rebuilt, but it, too, was destroyed by arsonists in 1972.
