Western Illinois University has multiple reported haunted locations and legends, including the Bayless dormitory, where a student allegedly committed suicide after her baby's death, and Tanner Hall, where a male student fell down an elevator shaft. Additionally, the Simpkins Hall is said to be haunted by a deceased janitor, and rumors exist of tunnels beneath the administration office being haunted by student ghosts. WIU's archives even contain a paranormal resources collection with related materials and oral histories. Bayless Dormitory: A story circulates about a female student who gave birth, disposed of the baby in a trash chute, and then hanged herself in her room. Tanner Hall: A male student reportedly died after falling down an elevator shaft within the building. Simpkins Hall: This building is said to be haunted by a janitor who died there. There is also a fictionalized, lighthearted story about a ghost named Harold, a "made-up" ghost who befriends the university's mascot, Rocky, and shows school spirit, according to WIU's College of Arts and Sciences. Administration Office: Rumors suggest tunnels beneath the administration building are home to the ghosts of students.
