The Original Springs Mineral Spa & Hotel is known for paranormal activity, including the "Jasmine Lady," a possible spirit of a woman who overdosed in 1965 and whose presence is accompanied by the scent of jasmine. Other reported phenomena include a little boy seen in the lobby, a phantom barfly, a woman in a white gown, the spirit of a former owner and her son, and unexplained water in the bathhouse. The hotel's historical connection to mineral waters and past deaths, such as the suicide of a former owner's son, contribute to its reputation as a haunted location. A female spirit, possibly linked to Pearl, a woman who died of an overdose in 1965, is often sensed by the smell of jasmine perfume. The spirit of Lou Harwood, who shot himself in the bar, is said to cause doors to slam, lights to turn off, and to pace the floor. A child has been seen in the lobby, reportedly playing with a music box in the hallways. An apparition, sometimes described as a woman in a white gown with brown hair, has been seen in the upstairs dining room and as a full apparition throughout the hotel. Someone dressed in black has been spotted on the balcony near the pool. Guests and staff report strange events, such as a bath spigot turning on by itself, water appearing in the empty bathhouse, and items moving without explanation. Some believe a former owner, who regained her ability to walk after bathing in the mineral water, and her son are among the spirits. The hotel has a history of deaths, including the suicide of Ben Scheirbaum, the son of a former owner, and the death of Tom Rogers, another former owner, within the hotel.
