The massacre, which occurred on January 29, 1863, was a brutal slaughter of hundreds of Shoshone men, women, and children by U.S. Army volunteers. The bodies were left where they fell, never properly buried, which is said to have led to the restless spirits. Paranormal reports and stories In the winter, some visitors have claimed to hear the sound of babies crying from the area.
