The Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) is rumored to be haunted by the "choking ghost," a spirit associated with the facility's location on the former Hava Naval Cemetery and the presence of a "many hun" or ancient Hawaiian pathway. Some accounts mention night marchers following a path through the upper part of the prison and spirits of those buried in the former cemetery also frequenting the site. The "Choking Ghost" Legend: The story of the choking ghost is tied to the location of the OCCC, which partially overlaps with the former Hava Naval Cemetery. The "Many Hun" Trail: The property also contains a "many hun," an ancient Hawaiian path. Night Marchers: According to lore, spirits of the dead, known as "night marchers," would follow a specific path through the upper levels of the prison, passing through the "many hun" trail and possibly along the corridor where the choking ghost is said to reside. The Hava Naval Cemetery was active from 1941 to 1947, after which the burials were relocated. The presence of the cemetery is thought to be the source of the supernatural activity, with the spirits of the deceased and the "night marchers" said to be frequent visitors.
