Kaniakapupu, Oahu
Kaniakapupu, the former summer palace of King Kamehameha III and Queen Kalama in Nu'uanu Valley, is considered one of O'ahu's most haunted locations. The ruins are a spiritually significant site, especially known for encounters with the Night Marchers, or huaka'i po. The Night Marchers: Kaniakapupu's most frightening tales involve the Night Marchers, the ghostly apparitions of ancient Hawaiian warriors. These spectral warriors march in a procession at night, accompanied by chants, conch shells, and drums. Encounters with the Night Marchers can be fatal. It is said that anyone who has witnessed them has not lived. Locals advise showing respect by immediately turning away and avoiding eye contact. Some traditions say that if an ancestor is in the procession, they will save you. The ruins of Kaniakapupu are believed to lie directly in the path of the Night Marchers. Visitors to the off-limits and sacred ruins have reported other mysterious occurrences. Many people near the ruins at night have reported an intense feeling of being watched. The site is known for its strong and eerie energy, which many attribute to its history as a place of power and the ancient spirits who reside there. While the sounds of the Night Marchers are the most famous, other reports describe unexplained noises echoing through the valley near the ruins.
