The Lucas Theatre is reportedly haunted by a man shot in the back in a 1928 drive-by shooting, who appears as a man with bullet holes, staggering and disappearing. Visitors have also described hearing phantom applause from an unseen audience and seeing shadowy figures within the theater. The theater, opened in 1921, also hosts movies, concerts, and dramatic performances. The most prominent ghost is said to be a ticket taker or office worker who was shot in the back during a 1928 drive-by shooting. Witnesses claim to see a man with bullet wounds on his back, who stumbles as if mortally wounded, falls to the ground, and then vanishes. The shooting occurred as a crowd was waiting to enter the theater. Some people have reported hearing applause coming from an empty theater, as if an invisible audience is present. There are also accounts of shadowy figures appearing within the theater.
