Hampton Lillibridge House, Savannah
The Hampton Lillibridge House is considered by many to be one of Savannah's most haunted locations, featuring reports of disembodied voices, a man in a top hat, and even demonic presences. Some stories claim a sailor's suicide occurred in the house, while a tragic rooftop collapse during the house's move by Jim Williams is also associated with paranormal activity. While the house's current private owners report no unusual experiences, the house's storied past makes it a popular site for ghost tours. Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported hearing unexplained disembodied voices and laughter. A well-known story describes a ghostly figure of a man wearing a top hat and suit. During the 1960s, a Catholic Bishop was allegedly called to perform an exorcism to remove dark supernatural forces from the residence. Some reports mention locked closet doors opening unexpectedly, and tools going missing. There are claims of finding bones within the house's walls. The house was built by Hampton Lillibridge between 1796 and 1799, and his death from yellow fever shortly after is a notable event. Another tragedy occurred when a worker died during the process of moving the house.
