Forsyth Park Inn, Savannah
The Forsyth Park Inn is rumored to be haunted by Lottie Churchill, the adopted daughter of Captain Aaron Flint Churchill, who owned the house in the 1890s before it became an inn. The story claims Lottie poisoned her mother with oleander, only to discover the woman was her real mother, leading to Lottie's descent into madness and eventual institutionalization. Her ghost is said to still appear, sometimes vanishing quickly, possibly still mortified by her actions. The Legend of Lottie: Lottie discovered the captain with Anna and, believing Anna to be a rival, poisoned her tea with oleander. Later, Lottie learned that Anna was her biological mother. Overcome with guilt and madness, Lottie was sent to an asylum, and her ghost is said to still wander the inn and garden, appearing as an insecure teenager. Guests and the current owner have reported seeing Lottie's ghost, often described as a fourteen-year-old girl who disappears suddenly. Visitors have seen Lottie walking in the garden, possibly visiting the spot where she found the oleander. The inn's keys have been reported to be thrown into the kitchen by unseen forces, as described in one account. Some guests have witnessed televisions in their rooms flipping on and off by themselves. There are also reports of seeing figures believed to be the captain and his wife, Lois, walking in the garden, though these are often seasonal.
