Walton Co. Emergency Operations Center, DeFuniak Springs
The Walton County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in DeFuniak Springs is reportedly haunted by a ghost known as "Sally Mae". According to an article in the IAED Journal, dispatchers have described experiencing a variety of paranormal phenomena attributed to Sally Mae. Dispatchers at the EOC have reported hearing strange, unexplained noises and experiencing objects moving on their own. Sally Mae was said to be playful and attention-seeking. Dispatchers who worked the night shift got to know the spirit's behavior. The EOC's bathroom was reportedly a frequent site of the paranormal activity. Employees claimed to be locked in the bathroom, and toilets would flush in empty stalls. A group of veteran dispatchers named the ghost Sally Mae. They became so accustomed to her presence that they would never introduce her to new hires. The activity was not always benign. One dispatcher quit after only two days, stating that she felt she was being stalked by a shadowy figure.
