Belmont Hall in Smyrna, Delaware is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a wounded Revolutionary War sentry who died in a pool of his own blood after being shot by a British marauder. Legend states the ghost haunts the mansion in search of the assailant. The most prominent reported paranormal activity is the presence of a wounded soldier who was killed during the Revolutionary War. According to the legend, the soldier was shot while guarding the mansion, which was fortified with a stockade. He managed to drag himself to a room to warn his comrades but died from his wounds. The ghost is said to be in search of the person who shot him, continuing his final warning. While some residents of the mansion claim to have seen and heard the phantom sentry, others, like Walter Speakman, have never experienced it themselves but have heard others' accounts.
