Woodland Beach, Smyrna

Woodland Beach is said to be haunted by apparitions and disembodied sounds of voices, laughter, and footsteps, particularly around moonlight nights and Halloween, due to the area's history of destruction by natural disasters. People have reported seeing ghostly figures, including an apparition of a person in old-fashioned dress, and experiencing ghostly or unexplained noises, potentially linked to the resort that was destroyed by hurricanes and a nor'easter in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Visitors have reported hearing phantom voices, laughter, and footsteps, especially when the mist is thick. Some people have claimed to see ghostly figures, including one who saw an apparition in old-fashioned clothing walking across the road and then disappearing. On misty nights, particularly near Halloween, some report seeing the lost boardwalk from the 1900s appear in the mist. The hauntings are often linked to the resort that was a popular local destination in the 1800s. A massive hurricane and tidal wave in 1878 destroyed the resort, and it was rebuilt only to be destroyed again by a nor'easter in 1914, after which it was never rebuilt. Reports of paranormal activity tend to increase around Halloween.
