Woodburn in Dover, Delaware, the Governor's residence, is considered haunted and is home to several spirits, including a man in a wig and colonial attire, a woman hearing footsteps, and potentially a malevolent entity. The first recorded ghost sighting was in 1815 of the man in the powdered wig, seen by a guest who realized the description matched the former owner's father. Other reported hauntings include a little girl playing in the garden pool and unexplained activity in the house since the 19th century. A well-dressed gentleman from the 18th century, seen frequently since 1815, who is sometimes described as enjoying wine in the dining room. A woman who reportedly hears footsteps on the stairs. A ghostly little girl who is said to play around the garden pool. Some accounts mention a negative entity, potentially the spirit of a former slave raider, though this is less frequently cited than the others. Another sighting includes a spectral figure dressed in attire from the Revolutionary War. Unexplained activity has been reported at Woodburn since at least the early 19th century.
