Lums Pond State Park, Bear
Lums Pond State Park is said to be haunted by a young woman murdered in the surrounding woods in the 1870s, with reports of her pleading screams or high-pitched cries heard near the Swamp Forest trail, as well as voices heard at the Lums Millhouse. The murderer was never caught, and the legend persists, with locals and ghost story enthusiasts sharing accounts of sudden cold spots on warm days and other unexplained phenomena. In the early 1870s, a runaway girl was taken into the woods near the park and killed, though her attacker was never apprehended. People have reported hearing high-pitched, pleading screams and muffled cries emanating from the woods, believed to be the spirit of the murdered girl. Some visitors have experienced sudden, inexplicable drops in temperature on warm days. There are also reports of hearing the voices of two contractors at the historic Lums Millhouse, even when no one is present. The phenomena are often associated with the Swamp Forest trail, which encircles the pond.
