The most frequently reported paranormal activity involves a ghostly sea captain who appears to guests and staff. A sea captain's spectral figure has reportedly been seen wandering the inn's rooms. The sound of boots clomping across empty rooms is attributed to the captain's spirit. Mugs and glasses have been known to move on their own, and doors have randomly opened and closed. The Saybrook Point Resort and Marina was constructed in 1989 after the property was purchased in 1980. While many ghost stories are associated with the previous building on the property, some claims are tied to nearby locations in Old Saybrook.
