Jordan, a keeper at the Penfield Reef Lighthouse, drowned in 1916 when his boat capsized in choppy waters near the lighthouse. His replacement, Rudolph Iten, reportedly saw a hazy figure come out of the former keeper's room just two weeks later. Witnesses have described seeing a floating figure dressed in white or a shadowy, swaying figure in the lantern room. Some accounts claim that a mysterious figure in a rowboat appeared during rough weather, guiding boats to safety. Other reported occurrences include the logbook being found open to the page describing Jordan's death and inexplicable footsteps in empty rooms. Some locals believe that erratic behavior in the lighthouse's beacon is the ghost of Keeper Jordan "having a little fun".
