The New London Ledge Light is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a former lightkeeper named "Ernie," who allegedly died after his wife left him, and his spirit remains in the lighthouse. Visitors and past Coast Guard members have reported numerous paranormal experiences, including seeing a shadowy figure, hearing unexplained noises like a door opening and closing, and witnessing the TV channel change on its own. The Legend of Ernie: Ernie was an early lightkeeper at the lighthouse in the 1920s or 1930s. The story goes that Ernie jumped into the ocean and died after discovering his wife intended to leave him. His ghost is believed to linger in the lighthouse, often referred to as "Ernie's Abode," forever awaiting visitors. People have claimed to see a shadowy figure at the top of the lighthouse. Visitors report hearing noises on the stairs and the sound of a door opening and closing when no one is there. Past Coast Guard members have also reported witnessing a TV channel change by itself.
