The Lighthouse Inn (formerly Meadow Court) in New London, Connecticut, is haunted by at least three distinct spirits: a bride who tragically died on the main staircase, a residual female spirit, and an intelligent haunting associated with a young girl. Guests and staff have reported seeing the bride in white wandering the halls, experiencing electronic beds and TVs turning on by themselves, and hearing unexplained noises, including a child's laughter and running in the corridors. The most famous spirit is a bride who died in the early 1900s after falling down the main staircase on her wedding day. Staff and guests have reported sightings of the bride, often in a white gown, still seen on the stairs. Her ghost is believed to be searching for the happiness she lost. Another female spirit is sometimes seen moving around the inn. This is considered a residual haunting, a non-intelligent replay of past events, where the spirit appears to be walking the halls without interacting. A younger female spirit is also believed to haunt the inn. Unlike the residual haunting, this is an intelligent haunting, as people report hearing the sound of a child running in the halls, doors opening and closing on their own, and even the spirit laughing and talking. Other reported paranormal activities include flickering lights, electronic beds turning on, and doors opening on their own. The tunnels beneath the inn's basement are said to be particularly active, with reports of unseen forces touching guests or causing sudden drops in temperature.
