The Blackberry River Inn, a historic colonial mansion in Norfolk, Connecticut, is known for its paranormal activity. The most frequently reported haunting occurs in the "Adelaide Room," where guests have documented strange noises and sightings in a journal. While the inn does not overtly advertise its supernatural reputation, it has become a destination for paranormal investigators and enthusiasts. The Adelaide Room is named for Mercy Adelaide Grant, the wife of Captain Grant, an early resident of the house. Guests have reported hearing disembodied footsteps, loud crashes, and other unexplained sounds coming from the attic and within the room. A 2011 guest reported that the shower curtain inexplicably fell to the floor during the night. Lamps are said to turn on and off by themselves, and some guests have reported camera audio cutting out for no reason. A 2021 broadcast from a local TV station followed a paranormal investigator's overnight stay in the room, where they experienced some of these phenomena. Beyond the Adelaide Room, guests have noted other strange occurrences within the historic mansion: Some have described the distinct smells of pipe tobacco and perfume, though no physical cause was present. A phantom woman has been seen walking through the main house. Some families with children visiting the inn have mentioned that their kids claim to have played with a small, invisible girl.
