Windsor Hotel, Del Norte
The Windsor Hotel in Del Norte, Colorado, is rumored to be haunted by a woman named Maude, whose story is tied to the hotel's history as a social and commercial center in the late 19th century. Legend says Maude stayed at the hotel and, after being heartbroken by a man who left with another woman, tragically died by suicide in the hotel. Visitors to the hotel claim to sometimes hear her moaning or groaning in pain, and her presence is particularly associated with the room where she stayed. Maude's Story: Maude stayed at the hotel for six days with a loved one. When the man left, he departed with another woman, leading to Maude's despair. Four days after the man's departure, Maude shot herself. Guests report hearing her moaning and groaning, even experiencing the pain of her gunshot wound or the pain of her lost love. Some visitors report hearing the happy giggling of a young girl running down the hallway. A second ghost, a former doorman named Floyd, is said to appear, sometimes assisting guests in the lobby. Guests may also feel a sense of presence and other unexplained occurrences.
