The Bross Hotel Bed and Breakfast in Paonia is reportedly haunted by the friendly ghost of its original owner's mother, known as Mother Bross. Her supernatural activity became more noticeable after the hotel was restored in the 1990s. Mother Bross is said to be a benevolent presence who looks after the hotel and its guests. According to lore, when the historic building was renovated in the 1990s, her spirit became more active and was seen and heard by many people. She is known for helping guests, with some stories claiming she has been known to turn down the sheets for guests. The English/Ghost's Room (#2) is said to be a center of paranormal activity. The renovators sensed a presence there and kept it as one of the few original-sized rooms. It is supposedly the space where Mother Bross's spirit resides. The Bross Hotel was originally built in 1906 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its long history as a gathering place for locals and travelers may contribute to the belief that it is home to lingering spirits.
