The Georgetown Fire Department Station 61 is reportedly haunted by the spirit of a former fire captain who died in 1934. The ghost is said to provide early warnings of fire calls and is responsible for other unexplained paranormal occurrences in the station. The spirit is believed to be Captain Woodard Bloxom, who died while fighting a warehouse fire directly across the street from the firehouse in 1934. His ghostly presence is reportedly a manifestation of his feeling that his duty at the station is not yet complete. Firefighters at Station 61 have reported numerous unsettling incidents attributed to Bloxom's ghost: The most beneficial manifestation is when unexplainable events occur just before the dispatch center receives a fire call. Firefighters believe Bloxom is giving them a head start. Firefighters have reported finding furniture scattered around, doors opening and closing on their own, and unexplained footsteps. Faucets have reportedly turned on by themselves, and toilets have been heard flushing at night when no one was using them. Sudden cold spots are frequently felt throughout the station. Lights have been observed turning on suddenly without explanation.
