The Carlo Hahn House, a former mansion in Ventura, California, is reputedly haunted by the ghost of a tragic Italian immigrant named Rosa. The stately home, which later housed the Candlelight Bar and Restaurant, is said to have "deep dark secrets" surrounding her story. The haunting is centered on Rosa's sad history, as recounted in local lore: A forced, unhappy marriage: Arriving in Ventura in the late 1800s, Rosa was married off to a much older man, leaving her deeply unhappy. A forbidden affair: She found comfort and love in the arms of a younger, handsome Italian man, and the two became lovers. Abandonment and pregnancy: Rosa soon became pregnant, but her lover abruptly left for San Francisco and never returned. Suicide: Desperate and heartbroken, a pregnant Rosa hanged herself from a beam in her room just as her family was arriving for a visit. Paranormal activity at the house is believed to be caused by Rosa's spirit. Reports include: Disembodied noises: Sounds have been heard coming from the upstairs women's bathroom. Being pushed on the stairs: People have reported the sensation of someone pushing them down the stairs. Apparition in the window: Passersby have claimed to see the ghostly image of a woman looking longingly out of a distinctive round window on the second floor, perhaps Rosa, still waiting for her lost lover.
