The Empress of Little Rock B&B, Little Rock
The Empress of Little Rock, also known as the Hornibrook House, is reportedly haunted by the spirit of its original builder, James H. Hornibrook, a wealthy saloonkeeper. Visitors and the owner have reported seeing the ghost of a well-dressed older man in a top hat, who has been seen standing at the top of the stairs or floating down them. Other phenomena include mysterious footsteps and a door handle that turns on its own before the door swings open to an empty room. The most common sighting is a well-dressed older man, sometimes described as a dapper man in a suit, who appears at the top of the staircase and has been seen floating down it. Guests have heard footsteps, particularly on the stairs, when no one is present. One incident involved a door handle that twisted on its own, and the door then opened to an empty room. The Victorian-style mansion was constructed in 1888 by James H. Hornibrook. It was originally built as the residence for Hornibrook, a prominent figure in Little Rock. Today, it operates as a 4-diamond bed and breakfast, and the current owner, Sharon Welch-Blair, has also witnessed some of the reported ghostly activity.
