Pea Ridge National Military Park, Garfield
Pea Ridge National Military Park, located in Garfield, Arkansas, is widely considered one of the most haunted Civil War battlefields. Visitors and paranormal investigators report hearing ghostly sounds of battle and seeing apparitions of soldiers wandering the former battlefield. The park was the site of a pivotal and bloody battle in March 1862, which resulted in a Union victory and the death of thousands of soldiers whose spirits are said to remain trapped on the grounds. Many visitors claim to hear the sounds of musket and cannon fire, drumming, and soldiers shouting, often in the middle of the night. One group of paranormal investigators reportedly captured an audio recording of marching drums and field commands. Witnesses have seen ghostly soldiers in uniform reliving the battle. Some have even reported seeing the spirits of dead soldiers at the Elkhorn Tavern, which served as a field hospital during the conflict. Guests have reported the distinct feeling of being followed by an unseen presence while walking the park's trails. This sensation is believed to come from the restless spirits of fallen soldiers.
