Centennial Hall, University of Arizona
Centennial Hall at the University of Arizona is said to be haunted by several spirits, including a restless female ghost who is sometimes blamed for violent incidents. The ghost stories primarily involve a student who was allegedly murdered in the building in the 1940s and an aggressive female spirit. One of the most persistent legends is that of a female music student who was murdered in the old Music Hall, which was later incorporated into Centennial Hall. Her spirit is believed to be active near the restrooms and music hall. People have reportedly heard the sound of a clarinet, the student's instrument, drifting through the empty building. One employee recalled hearing music and then feeling nauseous and dizzy before a clarinet fell and music started playing again, accompanied by the sound of choking. Alongside the music student's spirit, another, more malevolent female ghost is said to inhabit the hall. This spirit has been described as aggressive and is rumored to push people down the stairs. Some believe both a male and female ghost actively try to scare theater patrons. Employees and students have also reported unexplained apparitions throughout the building. An assistant technical director, Terry McIll, reported seeing someone walk across a doorway into a toolshed with no one inside. On another occasion, she saw a figure walk down a hallway and disappear into a brick wall. McIll stated that the existence of ghosts is a fairly accepted idea among many staff members who have had similar encounters.
