Thorton Road Dunes, Casa Grande

The Thornton Road "dunes" in Casa Grande refer to the abandoned and now-demolished dome structures that were the center of numerous ghost stories and rumors of paranormal activity. The hauntings were tied to the site's failure, its strange appearance, and its secluded desert location. Built in 1983 by a computer parts company, the futuristic-looking domes were intended to be a new headquarters. The company went bankrupt before the plant ever opened, leaving the structures abandoned and untouched. The unique, flying-saucer shape of some of the buildings added to the site's mystery and gave rise to UFO and extraterrestrial-related stories. The structures were finally torn down in 2023 after years of legal battles, with officials citing safety issues due to their crumbling condition. Visitors and locals claimed the abandoned domes were home to malevolent spirits, with some speculating the beings were drawn to the remote desert location. Ghost hunters reported seeing shadow figures and hearing unexplained noises within the domes. The site's unusual acoustics—which amplified even the smallest sounds—added to the unsettling atmosphere. Rumors circulated for years that the domes were a site for satanic rituals and occult activity. Graffiti, animal bones, and alleged salt circles were often cited as "evidence" of sinister events. A legend arose that the construction of the domes had disturbed a Native American burial ground, awakening the spirits of the dead. The location's fame was cemented when it was featured on an episode of the paranormal reality show Ghost Adventures.
