The head keeper, Adamson, was reportedly haunted by their likely drowning. 1930s Keeper Death: A keeper on duty died on the rock, and for ten days, he could not summon help before his body was found. The lighthouse is now decommissioned and has been automated, meaning it is no longer operated by a human observer. A preservation society has signed a lease to care for the historic structure, which is the oldest original lighthouse in Alaska.
