The Fourth Avenue Theatre in Anchorage is described as being haunted by the ghost of its founder, Cap Lathrop, who was killed in a railroad accident in 1950. Reports of Lathrop's ghost include sightings of his image in windows, looking like a portrait of him from 1942, and people have identified the figure as him after being shown a picture. While the ghost has not been known to cause harm, it is thought to be tied to the theater because of a belief that Lathrop swore he would never start a television station. The Ghost of Cap Lathrop: Lathrop is the most famous spirit associated with the theater. One witness, a former news general manager, reported seeing a vision of Lathrop in a window, resembling a 1942 portrait of the founder with a full head of white hair and a dark suit. Other people have seen a man in a three-piece suit and, upon being shown a picture of Lathrop, have identified him as the person they saw. The ghost is believed to haunt the theater due to a reported oath Lathrop made never to start a television station, and the theater once housed a local television station.
