William Winston House, Tuscumbia
The William Winston House in Tuscumbia is associated with several reported hauntings, including a ghostly figure of William Winston himself walking the halls, the spirit of Mrs. Winston (Judith) causing the entry hall walls to "weep" before a storm, and white figures appearing in the windows at night. The entry hall walls reportedly begin to "weep" or become damp as a storm approaches, said to be the spirit of Mrs. Winston. The spirit of William Winston has been seen wandering the halls of the house. White, ethereal figures have been seen passing by the windows at night, after the building is closed. The house was built by William Winston in 1824 and was later owned by his daughter-in-law, Judith Winston. Judith Winston was in the house when a tornado struck over 100 years ago, and she died a few days later from injuries sustained during the event, contributing to the legends of the home's haunting. The house was purchased by the city of Tuscumbia in 1948 and is now located on the Deshler High School campus.
