The 1880 Josephine (now the Josephine Art Center) in Union Springs, Alabama, is reportedly haunted by ghostly voices and unexplained lights. Located at 126 North Prairie Street, the former hotel has been investigated by paranormal groups and is featured in the book Haunted Alabama Black Belt. Reports of paranormal activity are primarily connected to the building's time as a hotel. Staff and guests have heard unexplained voices and witnessed shadowy figures moving through the building. Strange lights have been seen at night, though the cause is unknown. The building's haunting has been documented by local ghost hunters who sometimes hold ghost tours there. Built in 1880 by Dr. Robert A. Fleming and named for his wife, the Josephine Hotel initially featured 32 rooms. It changed ownership multiple times throughout its history. In 1903, the building became a pharmacy operated by F. F. Ravencroft. The building now serves as the Josephine Art Center, with owners working to restore the historic structure. The bottom floor features a café.
