The Pickens County Courthouse in Carrollton, Alabama, is considered haunted due to a ghostly face that appears in one of its garret windows, believed to be the likeness of Henry Wells. Local legend states Wells, a freedman, was accused of burning down the previous courthouse in 1876, was imprisoned in the structure, and died from gunshot wounds after being arrested while on the run.
