JD Holman House, Ozark
The JD Holman House in Ozark, Alabama is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a young boy in early 20th-century clothing, who has been seen in photographs and is reportedly responsible for phantom footsteps and whispers. The haunting is linked to an incident where the boy's life was saved by a superstitious maid who rushed him into the rain, with the man later living well into his 80s. A young boy, dressed in early 20th-century clothing, is said to appear in photographs taken near the top of the staircase. Visitors and residents have reported hearing disembodied whispers and phantom footsteps. The haunting is connected to an early occupant of the house, who was a boy saved by his mother or a maid during a rainstorm. An early occupant's child was once pulled from his crib. A maid or the mother took the child out into the first May rain of the season, believing it would ensure a long and healthy life. The man, now elderly, was said to have well-exceeded 80 years old, the event possibly being the source of the boy's spirit. The Holman House is currently used for weddings, events, and other public gatherings. It is also home to the Val McGee Military History Museum. The Ozark Heritage Association manages the property, working to preserve its historical character. While the paranormal stories continue, the house's function as a public venue means many visitors are more focused on its history and architecture.
