Gwodz (sometimes spelled Gwodz) Road in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, is said to be haunted by the spirits of people viciously attacked and hanged by the KKK in the 1930s and 1940s. Visitors have reported hearing the sounds of screams and laughter, and some claim that if they stop their car under the limbs where the hangings took place, the vehicle will begin to shake, and scratches will appear on its roof. The area is also noted for having unexplained temperature fluctuations or "hot spots". The haunting is attributed to the brutal activities of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1930s and 1940s, during which multiple black individuals were attacked and hanged from trees along the road. Passersby have reported hearing disembodied screams and laughter. Some visitors claim their cars will shake and scratches will appear on the roof when stopped at a specific spot, such as a limb from which a hanging took place. The area is also known for unexplained "hot spots" with sudden, dramatic drops in temperature. Strange mists have been photographed in the area, adding to its eerie atmosphere. The presence of the bodies of small animals like birds and squirrels found at the site of the hangings has also been noted.
