Fort Morgan is described as a haunted location, home to the spirits of soldiers and civilians who died there, with reports of disembodied sounds, footsteps, and apparitions. The old barracks are particularly noted as a haunted area, where a prisoner reportedly hanged himself in 1917, and visitors have heard his cries. Other phenomena include screams at night, the ghostly figure of a young woman, and taps on the shoulder. The Old Barracks: Considered the most haunted area, a prisoner died by suicide by hanging here in 1917. Visitors have reported hearing the hanging man's cries. Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported hearing sounds of footsteps, clicking shoes, and even screams in the fort. The spirit of a young woman is said to roam the fort and grounds, possibly looking for her attacker, after she was reportedly attacked in the 19th century. Reports also include being tapped, experiencing unusual shadows, and feeling a general sense of paranormal activity. Fort Morgan has a long history of conflict and suffering, with many deaths occurring during the War of 1812, the Civil War, and other conflicts. The fort also served as a holding area for Muscogee Indians, and approximately 93 of them perished on the property, leaving behind a strong spiritual presence.
